A Day in the Life
Embark on a day as a Speech-Language Pathologist where your workplace is as enriching as the care you provide. Collaborative discussions, hands on sessions, and virtual consultations with families underscore our commitment to holistic care and community engagement.
Your day begins in the co-working study lounge reviewing the case history of patient assignments, a space that encourages collaborative discussions, and clinical research, setting a positive tone to be prepared for your day. Your first session invites you into the gross motor area with an eager child and their motivated caregiver, embarking on a journey of movement before transitioning to a nature-themed sensory space. This sets the stage for table-top fine motor activities , where you work closely with the caregiver, coaching them to support their child’s independence at home, answering their questions, and educating on developmental skills that their child is working towards. Witnessing the growth in both the child’s curiosity and the caregiver’s confidence as they learn to engage their child in purposeful and functional tasks is a source of intrinsic joy. The caregiver’s appreciation for your ability to make clinical skills understandable adds to your fulfillment of the day.
Virtual sessions offer a unique perspective, allowing you to assist families in navigating their child’s challenges from afar. Leveraging the collective expertise of the interdisciplinary TLC clinical team, you strategize and provide individualized tools for each family, enhancing their access to services across LA County. This collaborative approach underscores the value of being part of an organization known for its deep community connections.
As the day draws to a close, the focus shifts to reaching out to colleagues and other professionals to collaborate on specific cases, and preparing for the following day.
