**Position Overview**:
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the work of licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) by assisting in the delivery of speech and language services to students with communication disorders. The SLPA works directly with students in individual or small group settings to help them improve speech, language, and communication skills as part of their individualized education programs (IEPs).

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Service Delivery**:
  - Assist the SLP in implementing speech and language therapy plans for students.
  - Conduct therapy sessions under the supervision of the SLP, focusing on speech, language, and communication goals.
  - Work with students on articulation, fluency, voice, language, and social communication skills.
  - Document and track student progress and provide regular updates to the SLP.
  
- **Assessment & Documentation**:
  - Assist in administering standardized assessments and screenings, under supervision.
  - Collect data and provide input on student progress toward therapy goals.
  - Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school and district policies.
  
- **Student Support**:
  - Provide support for students with speech and language needs, ensuring a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  - Develop and reinforce strategies to improve student communication skills.
  - Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to implement accommodations and modifications.
  
- **Collaboration & Communication**:
  - Work closely with the SLP, teachers, and other staff to ensure consistency in the delivery of services.
  - Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other team members regarding student progress.
  
- **Professional Development**:
  - Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the SLPA role.
  - Stay current on new speech and language development research and techniques.
 

**Qualifications**:

- **Education & Certification**:
  - Associate’s degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field.
  - Certification or eligibility for certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant in Arizona.
  - Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  
- **Experience**:
  - Experience working with students in a school or therapeutic setting is preferred.
  - Knowledge of speech and language development and disorders.
  - Familiarity with special education processes and IEP development is a plus.
  
- **Skills & Abilities**:
  - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  - Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  - Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students with speech and language needs.
  - Organizational skills to manage student records and therapy plans.
 

**Physical Requirements**:
- Ability to lift and move equipment, and provide support to students with mobility challenges.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move about the classroom for extended periods.
