I appreciated all of the background research which was both familiar and new to me. On a personal/professional note, I shared Ms. Harker's frustration about how to help our clients truly learn - and maintain - new vocabulary. Choosing Tier 2 vocabulary made sense and using a variety of techniques (language tasks) to improved learning fit with some of the work I do and gave me even more ideas. I look forward to see more research in the area of vocabulary and comprehension learning. Thank you.

The end results of the study discussed were not very favorable, making it seem like a waste of a course. There were not enough real-life examples of how to improve comprehension, since the results showed explicit vocabulary instruction did not improve comprehension, and the vocabulary words taught were forgotten later.

It also gives some good background information about the difference in vocabulary knowledge in children at different ages as well as those children with LLD's.
