The presentation was extremely informative, and I appreciate the presenter speaking from personal experience and sharing very helpful information with how to address victims and how to create a safe space for them. At times, the presenter sounded a bit overly rehearsed or as though she were reading off the slides or index cards.

Because this course gave very specific explanations about what to look for that may point to domestic abuse, how to get the patient to open up about it and talk if they need to, what materials to distribute for UE and how to distribute it, and what agencies to refer them to. Also, its important to know what are the reporting laws are in your state but also to advocate for laws that use a trauma informed and cues approach.

I was unsure about the format - no video just a photo of the presenter and an audio review of the PowerPoint? In any case it was a thorough introduction to a very sensitive yet necessary issue. She presented clearly and with true compassion. It was a bit tedious in the audio format and a live feed would have been more animated. I doubt that I will have much occasion to utilize the knowledge in my current practice. However, it was eye-opening and informative and I am glad to have chosen this course.

Excellent presenter on a difficult topic. She clearly knows the material, has lived it, and uses the information to support her own practice. An area I bet most SLPs are not really familiar with --- and very helpful just to have some thoughts before the issue might come up in the clinic. Makes me sad for the potential situations I might have overlooked in my ignorance.

I think everyone agrees that domestic violence is an issue that our society must combat. Unfortunately, I do not believe this course stresses the importance enough of having a strong family, with both mom and dad at home, setting a positive example for each other and for their children. Look at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for example. Before he became the famous minister that we have all grown to love and revere, he went through a period of time when he lost his faith in spite of coming from a deeply Christian family. Eventually, he returned to his faith while in college and became one of the key figures in getting legislation such as the Civil Rights Act passed. His Christian faith helped him to achieve this. A key component at the heart of Christianity, and in certain other religions as well, I believe, is having a strong, loving family. I would really, REALLY, encourage SpeechPathology.com and all of its instructors who teach about domestic violence to take Dr. King's example of what having a strong family and a strong faith can do and use that to help prevent domestic violence from ever happening, or to help people who have experienced domestic violence.
