Vocabulary is crucial to learning and it is key to recognize that children of poverty are already at a disadvantage. When you compound limited vocab knowledge, trauma, limited background knowledge, it is so important to build these skills

I really liked the content of this course, and it is very applicable to my work in Title 1 schools. However, this is one of the first digital courses I've taken where the participant is expected to draw conclusions based off the material in order to correctly answer questions for the exam. This was not difficult, but it was a little unexpected based on other courses I have taken.

I work in a school and state with high poverty levels, and this course spoke to the huge vocabulary needs I have observed in my students. Not only that, it helped distill in a concise format the essential aspects of vocabulary instruction that can help make a difference. I just wish it was longer:) It would be great to see a video of students participating in some of the vocabulary teaching tasks that Angie described.

My district has over 80% of students on free and reduced lunch. Many of our students have never left our small city, even to visit the more rural areas of the school district. They do not know Tier 1 words and have limited experiences even into elementary and middle school. We are in crisis with reading skills. This webinar helped to explain why, as well as steps that we can take to improve our students' chances.
