I appreciated this refreshing approach to therapy; specifically the encouragement to normalize stuttering. I now feel more confident about creating goals for my stuttering clients, and I understand why those goals do not always need to specifically target a reduction/elimination of stuttering. I feel hopeful that my clients can work towards increasing their QOL and improve their joyful participation in life even if they stutter.

there were lots of ideas for therapy for the different ages so that was great; for some of them she did give reasons why they are effective but for others I would have liked it if she gave reasons for why she is recommending those particular activities so i could know the rationale or what the outcome is supposed to target

While the instructor appeared knowledgeable, she spoke in a very slow sing-song manner which was tedious to listen to and I found myself dozing off quite a bit. In addition, she spent a lot of time just reading verbatim and I probably would have gotten more out of this doing it myself. There were also no therapy examples, just lecture.

Stuttering has always been a tricky area because you always feel that increased fluency is the goal. However, having this different perspective was refreshing-- that increased fluency does not always happen and we need to look more at the decrease in tension and avoidance and other factors. I have so many parents coming to me for different disfluencies and they are not stuttering and it is hard to know how to treat them or if they should be treated.
