The in depth breaking down of spelling skills into skill acquisition developmentally was very helpful. I now feel more confidant in my ability to differentiate the source of spelling errors and then being able to recommend/address needed skills in all students. Additionally, the standardized assessment and digital resources that were recommended provided direction for gaining baseline and progress information, even though standardized scores would not be used for students with CCN.

I have been struggling with this concept with one of my own students that uses AAC. Knowing I wanted her to be able to spell to give her more independence with her communication, but not knowing how possible it would be for her to learn to spell since she can't sound out words aloud. Presenter needed to provide picture examples of things she was discussing. Rushed toward the ends. Presenter also needed to discuss how to balance learning the device with learning spelling on the device. Spelling as a communication mode is not an efficient means of communication and the child needs to learn both, how to balance is the question.
