I took a similar course in person with Angie Neal in the spring but needed this refresher before meeting with the directors of my district to discuss district evaluation procedures. Angie Neal's courses are very clearly organized and she backs every point with references and data, which I appreciate when sharing the information with others to advocate for change.

Excellent resource for training teachers and beginning SLPs in the school system about educational need and the evaluation process. I see many SLPs coming out of the medical model of service delivery and over identifying SI in the school system based on scores and "I think I can help them".

As a therapist we often face questions regarding caseloads, reasons why or why not clients are on our caseload. It makes for a robust discussion among your therapy team as we want to help but at times our hand are tied. I like the fact that there were clear cut guidelines when it comes to caseloads. There is also support for the therapist who have clients who are not eligible.

The information regarding distinguishing language differences (due to cultural/first language differences, socio-economic disadvantage, lack of exposure, etc) and true language disorders was important. I also think the entire team needs to be aware that a "speech IEP" is not a gateway to special education services. I have seen the negative impact of that firsthand. The same with using RTI (or CEIS) to delay testing. Very good course overall.
