I learned several things I need to incorporate into my work with ASD young children. I must say I'm guilty of many of the things our speaker said to stop doing - let the child evaluate their own performance - don't keep doing for them in interactions - let them assess the situation.

I have never had this explained so clearly with such clear interventions lining up with each area of executive functioning and social communication deficit. I have an elementary age daughter with high functioning autism who struggles with executive functioning. The SLPs working with her say that executive functioning does not fall under their scope of practice. I think if they saw this presentation they would see how it fits and how to intervene with her.

I loved this course. So much of social skill work involves rote memorization as opposed to teaching clients functional and flexible skills. The information in this course will help me teach clients flexible skills that they can generalize across settings.

The user friendly way that an SLP can begin a conversation with parents on EF strengths and weaknesses and how they impact social functioning with clear goals parents understand Al great way to encourage self assessment for the student . I love the fact that it drives home the reminder that to develop EF we must teach our students to problem solve, and to question. Goes along with Michele Garcia Winner's program too!

This was a very good presentation with lots of information. I appreciate the reminder on Grice's Maxim. I feel I would have been best served if it was a bit longer allowing for the speaker to elaborate more on the subject. I welcomed her anecdotal examples. The fact that this topic is so linked to cognition, I would have appreciated more information on this with her deep knowledge of the topic.

This course offered a great deal of info. I haven’t worked in the school system in 10+ yrs. nor have I worked with autistic students. The terminology was foreign to me & the info was somewhat overwhelming. Question # 4 on the exam was confusing. I looked over the transcript for the answer & must have misinterpreted it. The bottom of p. 17 & the top of p. 18 referred to PS Tree. Pg. 18 referred to Vygotsky’s Self-talk. So I was a little confused as to which answer to choose.

A wealth of information about executive functioning in ASD populations. I was disappointed that the presenter too quickly talked about treatment options. I would have liked to have much more time and examples of each method. Lastly, TWO questions on the exam were derived from the Q&As. I think that this is inappropriate because there were NO visuals to support/model/explain said material.
