Felt that a lot of this information is not directly applicable to work you can do as an SLP as we cannot prescribe medications or administer any of the standard assessments used for GERD; this falls within the GI scope. Felt the information was very detailed for an area we cannot do much about other than make recommendations for lifestyle modifications.

Denise has done a better job of teaching material in other courses, but she seemed to just read the slides without much explanation for this course. There was a lot of focus on aspects of GERD that are outside our scope of practice, but it would have been nice to learn more about ways that SLP scope of practice can influence the impact that GERD can have on swallowing in our tx.

There was excellent information in this course, but I felt that the course was too short to accommodate all of this information. I think I have a strong base in reflux pathophysiology, medical management and associated risks, and behavioral management, and still there was so much information presented that I found myself stopping and rewinding the course just to be sure I got the majority of it. I think this course could be expanded to a longer, more advanced version that goes in more detail.

Although the presenter obviously knows a great deal about this topic. I found it way too detailed for an SLP. I wish it was much more simplified so I could walk away feeling confident in my ability to help my patients. Honestly, it was overwhelming. I am a seasoned speech therapist with decades of experience, and I felt as if this course were. more geared toward G.I. residents. I really wish this course had put the infor into every day situations. I do appreciate the wealth of written material.

There was so much information that was flown through and skipped over that I feel this series could have been at least 3 parts. If the order in which treatments are done is vital, we need to be able to share this information with our patients accurately. There are websites where you can buy copyrighted photos for a nominal price. We are paying for the membership. I don't feel that if I have to go out and supplement much of the research as part of a CE course that it is a good course.

As a PPI user, I have had little education about the specific risks, except I was encouraged to take B12 supplements. Being informed, now allows me to have a more specific discussion regarding the future course of treatment. Consequently, I now have a better reference to discuss this topic with patients or others who would also benefit from the information to open discussion with their physicians.

Technical terms and especially acronyms were frequently used without prior definition or without sufficient explanation. There was a blurring of professional scope of practice. Greater detail on a more limited scope of information that would be of greater use to the SLP would be helpful to clarity.

The instructor, Dennis Dougherty, MA, CCC-SLP, demonstrated an efficient delivery style. Her mastery of the detailed material on reflux in both Part 1 and Part 2 of the presentation provided an organized and knowledgeable delivery conducive to learning. These presentations have broadened the scope of my understanding in the area of reflux.
