This is one of the best short courses I have taken about working with people with aphasia. It's so helpful to have people with first hand experience living with aphasia provide their stories and explain what helped them and didn't help them early on and throughout their rehabilitation process. As an acute care SLP, I am going to try to immediately implement changes in how I interact with, treat, and educate patients and families.

I am recovering from a CVA that happened 2 years ago due to an occluded Main Right Cranial Artery, corrected via stent. Come a long way re: self-help, piano & guitar playing, singing and flower arranging and continue to improve. I go to a local gym daily. Stationary bike is now treadmill and pulley weights. I continue word retrieval challenges when stressed, but aphasia mainly affects my music eg sight-reading, key signatures and accidentals in measures. I enjoyed this presentation!

It was wonderful to hear personally from people who have struggled with aphasia and its different stages over the years. We usually see a patient at a certain part of the recovery process and don't know what happens down the road. I like how the speakers' personal stories related to the literature.I was impressed and inspired by these stroke survivors with aphasia doing such focused presentations to the best of their abilities. They have been so motivated to share experiences to benefit others.
