This course will discuss pain definitions, pain perception, principles of quality pain management, including therapeutic communication about pain, and prevention of transition to chronic pain, in order to improve understanding of the relationship between the opioid epidemic and pain management. It will also review the literature discussing the relationship between hearing loss and opioid misuse.
This course was created to satisfy the Michigan pain management continuing education requirement for SLPs, though information in it is relevant to all states.
