This course provided a different way of considering the needs of autistic people. Interesting to read the impressions of an autistic individual in our field. My previous framework was to support the individual by working together to modify communicative differences, rather than to support acceptance within the individual’s community.

Excellent! I only rated the first question as 3 because I don't work in the area of Autism frequently in my practice. But this course was very good. Really one of the best courses I've taken on here. Thanks!

This was such a breath of fresh air and the difference I experienced between this session and the one I just took about diagnosis of autistic girls and women is night and day. Having an autistic presenter makes all the difference in the world. Neurotypical people, no matter how much study they put in, are not us. They can participate, but they should never be placed in leadership positions or positions of power over autistic people.

It gave me food for thought in terms of the work I do in social skills groups and it has moved me even more towards building trust, happiness and confidence in my autistic young clients. It has reaffirmed what I was beginning to figure out on my own and I now have more confidence in being able to help parents navigate their child's diagnosis as well.

I specifically liked hearing how the movement is trying to address human rights issues that have long been ignored. I was emotionally impacted when I learned that we therapists were all engaged in conversion therapy (and we didn't even know it until we stopped to listen to feedback from the autism community). Although it is painful to acknowledge wrong doing, it is the only way positive change occurs. Thank you for stating some hard truths.

It appears to stereotype many slp or slpa as having a high pitch voice. It's reverse prejudice. It's not kind and it should not be part of a CEU program because this part has no learning value. People who are learning and want to help others should not be subjected to this.

The information presented is very important for all practicing SLP's. It invites us to take self-inventory of our beliefs and challenge our tacit knowledge about how we think we should work with diverse populations. As SLP's having social justice as a central component to our practice is not only important but imperative if we are to be successful in working most effectively with all our clients.
