This presentation was everything! I struggle with the idea of teaching masking skills to individuals. Are we teaching people to become actors? Forcing interactions...ABA (Pavlovian in my opinion)...eye contact...requesting help when one doesn't need the help... Each of the targets are common in school based therapy and drive me absolutely insane! I appreciated the inclusion and explanation of what bias might look like in the SLP. We are often unaware of our lack of introspective thought.

It was illuminating to hear information about the neurodiversity movement and neurodiversity affirming therapy from an SLP who is also autistic. Hearing about someone's lived experience as well as their experiences with their own clients gave the information an authenticity that would have been lacking if similar information was presented by someone who was speaking for the marginalized group, but not a part of that group themselves. The presentation was well organized and gave clear information

Very enlightening. I appreciated that this course is available in a text option that allowed me to print off, read and highlight off-line; it better fits my learning and recall style better than videos. Lots of good information in here, specifically, what does ableism "look like"; medical disability model vs neurodiversity lens; training autism acceptance; and double empathy vs. just forcing masking and NT "passing" as the end goal.

I really liked the one. It was easy to understand and the presenter explained things well with great rationales. The historical examples of how autistic people and gay people were treated by the psychological community through conversion therapy were horrifying and eye opening. I feel like the more trainings like this I have the better, to help me to improve my practice, because it is counter to what I learned in grad school and to the therapy materials that are most widely available.

In a field where we are expected to write measurable goals and take data, I'm finding it very difficult to shift my goal writing even with this information. I know what my goals should NOT be, but I need real examples of what they could be. Case studies with appropriate goals to match the individual's needs that also honor their autonomy. I just require more concrete examples to learn before I can branch out on my own.

This course provided a different way of considering the needs of autistic people. Interesting to read the impressions of an autistic individual in our field. My previous framework was to support the individual by working together to modify communicative differences, rather than to support acceptance within the individual’s community.

This was such a breath of fresh air and the difference I experienced between this session and the one I just took about diagnosis of autistic girls and women is night and day. Having an autistic presenter makes all the difference in the world. Neurotypical people, no matter how much study they put in, are not us. They can participate, but they should never be placed in leadership positions or positions of power over autistic people.

I specifically liked hearing how the movement is trying to address human rights issues that have long been ignored. I was emotionally impacted when I learned that we therapists were all engaged in conversion therapy (and we didn't even know it until we stopped to listen to feedback from the autism community). Although it is painful to acknowledge wrong doing, it is the only way positive change occurs. Thank you for stating some hard truths.

It appears to stereotype many slp or slpa as having a high pitch voice. It's reverse prejudice. It's not kind and it should not be part of a CEU program because this part has no learning value. People who are learning and want to help others should not be subjected to this.
