This presentation gave excellent ideas of Montessori activities, such as the picture sorting of different family members in order to remember their names. This is an task that could be beneficial for visual learners, as well. Asking the patient for their opinion or their assistance is also a great way for them to feel needed and to express themselves. This presentation was very clear and concise.

We were almost 40 minutes into the class before the presenter began providing examples. Much of the class seemed like background/justification for why to implement Montessori principles rather than HOW to implement them.

This course was excellent for demonstrating how important it is to engage in continuing education - even if you have experience in a field, new ideas and new research can provide tools for helping clients and improving practice. The content presented was well organized, connected to research and best practice recommendations, and the presenter explained clearly but in detail to bring info and examples to life.

I really appreciated the breakdown of different models of dementia care, importance/relevance of activities and utilization of strengths, and methods of delivery with principles. The speaker was excellent. I will be looking for more courses by this speaker, Megan Malone. While this is for SLPs, I really think this should be taken for other disciplines as well who are involved with caring for dementia patients. Thank you very much for sharing!

I have been volunteering in a nursing home, and I have inherently used many of these practices while there. I am not there as an SLP, but all my prior training is in play as I volunteer. In fact a caretaker told me we couldn’t adapt the activities to make it work for everyone, but I showed we could. I also have them doing more for themselves, when they usually had I done for them. And their engagement has gone up 100%.
