Gosh, I just relate so deeply to everything the instructor presented. I struggle immensely with the mental demands of being a school based SLP on a daily basis (even in the summer) and I feel so alone the majority of the time because of stress that is triggered by my job. I appreciate this instructor acknowledging this issue and I hope to find the peace that she has attained, in spite of the challenging demands of her job.

There were many things I enjoyed about this course. I especially enjoyed the speakers ability to not only clearly and effectively provide real-world examples of social emotional situations/ social awareness contexts, but how she brought science into her course as well. I enjoyed how she mentioned comments about cognition, specifically with the prefrontal cortex and executive functioning to demonstrate how our brain is the ultimate power of our emotions.

I'm still new to mindfulness and I thought I was well educated about social-emotional learning and communication, but this course made me realize that so much more than what I previously thought and even dispelled some "trendy" definitions of what I thought mindfulness and social-emotional learning are. The lecturer was very good about the pacing of her lecture with slides and had defined very well all these terms all the while explaining how and why these two are distinct but practical.

Wow this was a topic I didn’t know I needed/wanted to learn about! I think the main part of what made this course excellent was the passion that the speaker had. When she shared her background and talked about burn out and leaving the field to teach yoga and coming back, I really resonated with it and it made me better understand the topic. I really also loved how she compared and contrasted mindfulness and SEL in order to help me best understand the topics!

Very informative and great resources. I appreciated the techniques given for different ages because I work with high school students on various levels and am always looking for ways to meet all of their needs. The mindfulness strategies will be great to use because almost all of my students have some form of stress and trauma.
