Wow! It really opened my eyes to the experiences of a person who is dependent on a tracheostomy. I liked the 7 AAC Etiquette Rule as well. Very appropriately title. Insightful!

It was excellent to hear about these topics from a patient's perspective. She had some good reminders and tips for making therapy/interactions as positive as possible. There were several distracting spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

The speaker had it well-organized. However, the slides were blurry and several images were difficult to view (for example one trach tube showed as a black image and one was very blurry - so could not distinguish between them). However, hearing the patient's perspective and interpretation of things was very interesting and enlightening. Some of the more factual information should be fact-checked as there was some that could be misconstrued if someone is unfamiliar with it.

I am an SLP for children with Tracheostomies and some with progressive disorders. I know it is somewhat different because they have likely never experienced another way of breathing or living, but it was insightful to understand feelings they may be having and pain they may be feeling. I had knowledge of the AAC rules and etiquette but it was a good reminder and refresher. very organized and easy to follow. Thank you.

I think it was incredibly valuable to hear the perspective of a patient and how the tracheostomy, air pressure, and the speaking valve feels. If I were to have a patient who explained the way certain things felt, it helps troubleshoot problems and helps us to be more compassionate. I also appreciated her tips for modified diets.

It was great to have a presenter who uses a trach to talk about their first-hand experiences. However, I don't feel like that first learning outcome (describe characteristics and features of the various trach tubes and speaking valves) was fully addressed. It would have been helpful to have labeled diagrams, maybe videos, and maybe a professional who can speak more in detail about the valves address this learning outcome.

Please do not remove this course from the library. I will be using this course as an essential course for any of my students whom I supervise with traches. It is remarkable to hear feedback and insights from a Speech Language Pathologist who is living with a tracheostomy tube and vent. I’ve always said some of my best educators have been from those who have experienced first hand or are experiencing the challenges of the topic. This lecture is a must if working with tracheostomy tubes.

This course is one of the best courses I've taken in my 30 years of being a Speech-Language Pathologist! Very insightful! I am thankful for the reminders of how to interact with trach/vent patients overall as well as how to interact with those who use AAC devices for other conditions. I congratulate Meggin on her mental toughness. She not only endures the difficulties of her situation, but she creates positivity as a result (i.e., authoring a book; creating this course)!
