The course presenter was very knowledgeable and clear about the information. The ONLY reason I said that it increased my confidence moderately, is because I'm so out of my realm with this topic and I am getting two pretty severe stutters on my caseload this spring. The 'moderate' is my issue not the presenters.

I appreciated that the presenter answered questions in real time and was thorough in answering. This training covered a lot, and reinforced some topics/ideas that I wasn't too confident in before taking the course (e.g., efficacy of relying solely on stuttering counts for dx, what benefits to treatment there are for older students/people.)

I liked that the presenter educated on updated terminology and social implications for stutterers. He also gave good clarification on when a person is appropriate for therapy and when it is not recommended, which I appreciate as a school-based SLP who is has to determine (and sometimes argue) whether or not there is an educational impact

This topic is SO important. There is so much focus on acceptance and almost a negative reaction when as a therapist we want to help. There seems to be a negative stigma for therapists to want to help to make speaking feel easier. This is a wonderful topic.

Craig Coleman was an excellent speaker with a wealth of information on who are the best candidates for stuttering treatment. I starred Craig's primary goal in treatment, "to make people who stutter an expert in stuttering." Another takeaway was to make sure kids know it's ok to stutter. Craig talked a bit about how he structures treatment, beginning with improved education, social outcomes, coping skills, reactions, quality of life, and finally disfluencies. I can't wait to take part 2!

The information he provides is very useful. For instance, he stressed the importance of making informed decisions about whether someone is a good candidate for stuttering therapy on an indiviual basis. In addition, he placed emphasis on implementing comprehensive treatment for stuttering that targets disfluencies as well as attitudes, reactions, and thoughts. Further, he discussed the value of educating the public on stuttering to decrease some of the negativity surrounding the condition.

some excellent issues were brought up, especially related to labels. I also appreciated the validation of the assignment I had many many years ago to go out into the community and purposefully stutter; I use this as an example as how I have a tiny experience of what it might be like for clients to stutter. The point about how we never as non-stutterers have to think consciously about how we are going to speak.
