I love the presenter's down-to-earth, conversational way of presenting. I also enjoyed that he was "taking" (reading aloud and responding to) questions throughout. He had a great way of providing clear, simple information on slides, and keeping slides up for a significant amount of time while he spoke on the slide's topic, with clinical examples and case studies, etc.

I'm an SLP with a dad who is a stutterer. While stuttering impacted every aspect of his life, it did not keep him from being highly successful in sales. He gave speeches all over the United States about the importance of nonverbal communication, and he felt stuttering contributed to that success. This speaker was very knowledgeable. I connected with his statement about "learning what it is like to think about your speech all the time" because my dad has often expressed that feeling.

I have a few middle schoolers on my caseload who are seeing me for stuttering. However, their personal reactions vary incredibly. Some of them are extremely motivated to participate in speech and have discussions about stuttering; others have a different mindset, such as "Yes, I have a stutter - No, I do not care." This course has really helped me get a better idea of how to move forward with some of these students.

Mr. Coleman brought clarity to that statement; "stuttering and disfluency are not the same." The examples of WHO needs treatment or rather who would be a candidate for treatment were excellent and helpful. I also appreciated the explanation and history of using dysfluency versus disfluency.

As a speech therapist practicing for 50 years, I was taught many years ago that children who are two years of age should not be made aware of their stuttering and therefore treatment would not be recommended. However, I have now learned that the earlier treatment is started, the greater the outcomes in most cases.
