Not much is learned about executive functioning in grad school so this was a very helpful course. Especially as in SLP in an academic setting, this is really permanent to what I observe every day and the type of students I work with. Overall, very helpful.

The instructors provided a framework for understanding executive functioning, along with specific strategies for how to teach students (or accommodate deficits in, as needed) executive functions. They provided specific examples of how they intervene in their school, along with case studies. I left the course feeling like I could implement some of their suggestions as soon as I return to school.

This course had more "meat" to it than most of the other CE classes available for SLPs that have been in the field for 15+ years. Most information tends to be a review. This provided great information for SLPs working the HS students. There seems to be a lack of training provided that is geared towards school-based SLPs serving that age group. Great stuff!

My primary work as an SLP is with dyslexic students, the majority of whom have executive function impairments. The program I use requires sustained attention for 50 minutes to one hour and leans heavily on executive function for successful remediation. I will use this information to incorporate a variety of tools into my reading sessions to help these students successfully achieve grade level reading more quickly and with more self-efficacy that should carry over into other academic tasks.
