This is such an important topic to cover and I feel the number of students experiencing trauma is increasing. As a survivor of abuse, it is good to see more of these trainings pop up to spread awareness and to be informed about the realities of our students' lives that make it difficult for them to achieve academically at their fullest potential.

As a school-based pediatric SLP, I found some of this to be more adult and/or outpatient focused. I also found that the presenter missed an opportunity to tie in TIC to the field of SLP specifically.

Overall, I enjoyed the course. It reinforced and refreshed much that I had learned over the years. As an SLP, I struggled with the example given that stuttering disappeared after appropriate trauma-informed therapy was provided. That statement was made without clarifying that emtionally-based stuttering can respond well to trauma-informed therapy but neuroligically-based therapy wont. It may give parents of children who stutter false hope that counseling alone will help therapy.

The speaker's knowledge and vast experience with clients who have experienced trauma as well as trauma's impact on the clinician was especially helpful! (As an SLP, I would suggest that the speaker pronounce "important" as written, rather than "impor-ant". Also, vocal fry was noted. Both of these are often used in people in her age group, and are easily corrected. She was a great presenter!

The presenter was very knowledgeable, yet not boring and she also gave examples that people could relate to even if she was speaking about more involved topics in her presentation so she was able to give a very brief, but useful background knowledge so the listener could be brought up to speed on how that information related to the point she was making. This is especially important because this crosses over to speech pathology, but is not of the direct topic of social work for us slps.
