Excellent, as usual with Ms. Vess, in every way. Except her assertion that using e-books or e-anything is a good idea. The research, as is often the case, looks at the benefits but not the cost. There is no greater calamity perpetrated against children than screen time. Period. Yes kids like screens. Drunks like alcohol, too. If you'd promised that the tablets would only be used with adults or even peers -- but leaving kids with tablets is just an awful idea. Truly awful.

I liked all the practical examples Kelly Vess gives. I like her use of narrative to address many goals. I don't know that I would use her precise physical prompts, but the idea of using something similar that are physical is something I would like to try. I do like the idea of a story grammar marker chain, which I use, as that can also provide a physical imprint. But I might try her physical hand cues. After all, they are always available.
