Let's shake down this identification practice that I and many of my colleagues have or are practicing. When you combine school psychologist and educational diagnostician AND speech language pathologist, you have a trio of mixed biases and interpretations of all measures administered OR NOT to individual students. This emerging research I HOPE impacts our work

The instructor was very knowledgeable and the content is important. However, her style of presentation I found to be exhausting. Her rate of speech was fast throughout the entire presentation. I was acoustically exhausted about half way through. I struggled to focus the last half of the presentation. I'm not sure when she found time to breathe.

on topic subject correlating dyslexia and DLD- improving PD support to begin to support practitioners who work directly in the field with theoretical practice using the scientific model of application of theory model. This is informative and acknowledges the barriers. however, I believe as a practitioner (30+) years that the evidence base needs to spend more time categorically reviewing outcomes for students - lets look at at what works and why - this is will inform educational practice.

Lots of information, much of it useful, but the organization made the content difficult to follow at times. Crowded slides, sometimes without the topic clearly stated. E.g., venn diagrams are not useful if we don't know -- simply by looking -- the topic the diagram is attempting to illustrate. On the OTHER hand, active, effortful learning is thought to be superior to being spoon-fed.

This course seemed to imply that school-based SLPs have no system in place to identify and qualify DLD students. Perhaps the intended message was that the systems that are in place are inadequate, but when we're already performing screenings, educating teachers, monitoring progress, and evaluating students of concern; this training does not provide specific information about how to improve the processes we already have in place.

Dr. Hogan demonstrated that many early "oral" language delays/problems are overall language disabilities which overflow into literacy needed to be solidly acquired to be successful in the curriculum (academics). This research was initiated almost 50 years ago and is proven to be solid. Many supervisors and administrators/ legislators need to be educated on this fact. Many students are qualified for SLI with limited specific support in comprehension and literacy.

The presenter shared a lot of interesting information, although she went rather quickly and I had to keep stopping the video and going back to take in all of the information. She was very knowledgeable about dyslexia and DLD, and the presentation was very interesting. I would have liked some practical suggestions as to how best to work with this population though.
