I love taking courses from this lady. I am totally confused at this point-I totally get the difference versus disorder. How on earth do we teach them that is alright to say "He know who you is" as ok in the school setting. I actually heard a teacher say that to a student. I get the differences-had to explain that to a parent about /f/ for /th/ which is a difference NOT a disorder.

This was a great course because it highlights the issue of confusing dialect with errors/disorders. It's important to be respectful of dialectal differences and not use these differences to make assumptions about people. I live in a very multicultural region and basics are a challenge. Teaching to specific dialectical difference is not within the scope of what would be remediated. I really enjoyed the subject matter and the presentation of the subject. The presenter is so very knowledgeable in so many areas. I have enjoyed other presentations she has done on speeechpathology.com. Dialect is something that is very important and needs to be understood not just by SLPs in determining if a child does or does not have a speech / language deficit, but this information certainly does need to be shared with general education and special education teachers. Very well done!
