The subject was good because of the motivation of the student's reaction to the author's chair. Writers' Workshop not only integrates the writing process but also emphasizes student motivation and engagement, which are essential components of The Not-So-Simple Model of Writing. The "author's chair" aspect of the Writers' Workshop, where students share their writing with peers, can enhance motivation by providing recognition and positive feedback opportunities. Therefore, the Writers' Workshop a

This is a topic that is not often addressed, but I am still confused about why a student would need to type out a word instead of using a symbol to generate the word for it to be considered writing. Hopefully this will be addressed in one of the other sessions of this series.

If the ultimate goal is to develop written language skills, the cases shown do not appear to demonstrate the potential for going beyond putting random letters on a page. I don’t see this as ultimately leading to that. It appeared to ultimately be an expressive language task once in the writers chair that appeared to be a positive group experience.I do not see a realistic application of this approach with this student population for developing meaningful written language skills.

The course covered a topic for which I had very limited knowledge. Our school caseloads of students with severe needs has grown considerably over the past five-ten years and currently includes many students with significant, complex communication needs. Addressing written language is something that has not been undertaken in the manner described in this course and the presentation has definitely given me ideas and a plan for introducing writing to them.

Excellent presentation with valuable and applicable information that was very well organized in the presentation slides. I can see myself referring back to the slides and applying the strategies and content to my work with children on my caseload who use AAC. I have been wanting to learn more how to integrate AAC use to core curriculum in writing, and this presentation helped to break down the process.
