This is a jam packed course. It's like taking Audiology review in one hours. I feel the instructor did what she could do to fit it all in one hour, but honestly think giving more time for the listener to process the information and digest it, would be helpful. Perhaps giving the speaker 2 hours to cover this same amount of information. I found myself rewinding, listening and re-reading to make sure I understood the course. Speaker is very knowledgable. I just wish this was not so condensed.

Many false statements-Instructor referred to indirect language learning as "overhearing" but this is FALSE. Indirect language learning refers to any learning that isn't explicit (e.g., sitting a child down to teach a specific word) so this can include learning a new word through play-Gladwell's 10,000 hours is made up and not based in science at all-Many of the issues brought up could be solved with access to spoken english and ASL

I felt I needed a back to basic review of hearing and auditory loss and this course provided it. After reading other slp's reviews, I did take breaks during the presentation so I could maintain my own focus and attention to the slide reading format of the presentation. I do plan to complete Part 2 of the presentation as the information gained is well worth the time.

my caseload has increased with child who are suspected to have hearing loss as demonstrated by their behavior and inability to imitate high frequency consonant speech sounds. I know about the role of the audiologist. I was not familiar with a listening and spoken language specialist. I would have considered this about of my scope of practice, which I found eye opening.
