As I work with children with autism and often face challenges related to maintaining attention, I understand that building rapport is essential. My goal is to invest more time in fostering strong, positive connections with each child, as this can enhance engagement and create a more supportive learning environment.

The instructor has many shared constructs that experience has shown to be very effective with children who have difficulty communicating. This course did not touch on the impact of teaching parents how to build "communication" rapport at a really early age but the later ones may. For school age children the use of time and the ways of communicating with parents that were presented would be something most school SLP's should be eager to try.

It highlighted best practices for using AAC for children with Autism, with examples of goals that I can use in therapy. It was interesting too because she debunked common goals that are written for children using AAC and why they shouldn't be written in that way (accuracy vs frequency).
