Great reminders about active listening! I am a SLP with 40 years of experience. I have a daughter with 2 challenging kids (twin boy and girl), both gifted, but 1 with ADHD. Consistent active listening is what I need to do with her. I took this course mainly to help me with ongoing support for her and my son-in-law. The professional in me wants to help, but I will not be heard (silence from her= safety issues) I guess just supporting and loving them all....

I loved the presenters transparency. She shared her own journey including her shortcomings, especially early on in her career, but also more recent discoveries about herself. I will immediately use her comments about becoming a more active listener as opposed to only thinking about what my response needs to be. I appreciate the reminders about our non-verbal cues having a much greater impact on the outcome of a conversation than our words. The whole hour was useful.

I'm in counselling right now because my daughter in law has taken away the privilege to see my grandchildren. This has been a very very difficult last 11 years and now my son treats me like my daughter in law - with great disrespect. I hope I can try some of these strategies to not follow a legal path to regain visitation with my grandchildren.
