As SLP's we all need to be aware of the significant impact that ACE's have upon each aspect of a child's current and future life. Resiliency is the key to facilitating a brighter future for these individuals, so their early negative experiences do not contribute to a life sentence of failure to thrive.

This was a very informative presentation on ACE’s. The format was well organized, starting with specific examples of ACEs and then giving information on how such experiences can affect all levels of development, including communication development. Especially helpful was how SLPs can help provide intervention for speech/language development via the resilience model and by strengthening parent involvement/relationships.

I wish the presenter explained the specific manifestations of ACEs on language development - vocab acquisition, social connection deficits, auditory and overall comprehension, etc. Also, I would like to see a comparison between language development of children of parents with low SES (the 50% with 1-3 ACEs) and children of higher SES (the 50% with 1-3 Aces). I wonder if parental education levels (or lack thereof) might be a stronger predictor of language development than ACEs alone.
