I didnt see where the line between SLP and Psychologists lie. You could spend you entire session counseling to build repore and make no gains and insurance would run out because it looked like the patient wasnt making progress. More examples to quickly integrate concepts into therapy are needed to make this truly functional. Every therapist should already be making their goals "patient centered" with or without the ACT process. Im glad I took the course to learn what ACT was.

As SLPs we encounter these psychological and mental health issues with our clients and their families as negative impacts of changing and/or changed communicative conditions occur. The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach provides a positive model for educating our clients and their families about communication, feeding and swallowing and related disorders.

I struggled to understand some of the concepts but overall I learned a good bit about this therapy approach. I've always employed a counseling approach - never shied away from a student or adult who wanted to talk things out.....It was especially true, for me, with stutterers and some students on the spectrum.
