As an SLP, I provided services to students with deficient phonological and phonemic awareness skills. This course has provided me with new information about supporting developmental sequences in spelling acquisition and intervention. One approach I was unfamiliar with was SPELL-Links to Reading and Writing. I was also unfamiliar with information about the “science of reading” published by The Reading League (2021). I highly recommend this course.

The information presented was relevant, explicit but concise. I appreciated the reminder that children start to learn to read as infants. Exposing them to print and books at an early age is crucial to their later reading success. This is information that I am going to share with parents – especially parents who are learning English. This highlights how important it is to read to your children.
