The implications of the study stating that more frequent but less lengthy sessions in a 1:1 model vs. small group provided similar gains for students with mild to moderate speech sound disorders was interesting and could help with scheduling.

The information is a quick, effective read of updated evidence-based results to the challenges of speech therapy for students with mild to moderate SSD. While I have done something similar in the past, with mostly positive results, I have found myself getting away from it without realizing. It is a good reminder of an effective therapy practice.

Scheduling in the school setting is often a difficult task as there are usually too many students and too much paperwork to fit into a typical school week. Providing alternative service delivery models to consider is a good start to provide appropriate services to see progress and to handle the number of students we are often given.

I have been in this field for decades now, and it is very reaffirming to see current research re: the efficacy of shorter, more frequent, more individualized therapy sessions for students with articulation needs. My past colleagues and I have been saying this for many years, as this model benefits not just the student, but the classroom teacher(s) and the S/LP her/himself. Unfortunately, unwieldy caseload sizes and 6-day building schedules were major hurdles. But hope springs eternal!
