I have a number of students who fall in the vocabulary vortex with limited knowledge and significant weakness in phonemic awareness from first grade to 8th grade and it feels like I've been treading water and going nowhere. My kids are not English Learners, but they certainly haven't acquired the needed skills. The information given will apply to them. This presentation was a lifesaver and a kick-start for focus and planning this summer for next year. I've got some new strategies and ideas!

I loved learning that teaching tier 2 vocabulary words with academic curriculum using cognate and multiple exposures was evidence based. The hierarchy of teaching vocabulary was also very helpful. I look forward to sharing this information with the ELD teachers I work with to allow us to co-treat ML students.

This is an information-rich, highly readable, and practical article. The format and style worked well for me in thinking about clinical application in my high school setting. I plan to share ideas with my EL colleagues and use this article in preparing for an upcoming IEP. I like the 20 question format. This presenter is excellent; I have seen her present at Saint Louis University. I respect that she is an academic still working in the schools.
