This is essential information that SLPs need, and training programs should consider. Unfortunately, universities seem to consider undergraduate psych courses as adequate preparation for SLPs. This leads to some SLPs thinking they are qualified to do psychological counseling.

Dr. Fogle was absolutely correct in the way that SLPs use counseling nearly every day with the clients and families they treat, but this was such as refreshing reminder as to the impact and manner of how we utilize these counseling skills, as well as an addition in to how they may be used effectively. Personally, the graduate program I attended had a counseling course, but this added even more to the foundational knowledge I possessed. Wonderful course!

I like the Q & A format. The way that I often choose professional learning is that I base it on the questions that have come up in my work. This format helps me concretely and succinctly summarize the content that I need. Many times, it is the questions at the end of the PL session that provides the most insight. The questions are often a reflection of the struggles in the field, rather than just content to know and understand. Great format.
