I have always been intrigued by different accents and dialects. This course allowed me the opportunity to learn more about accents and dialects and the modification of accents. As a birth to three clinician, I will most likely never need to address accent modification, however, this course provided me with information that I can pass on to parents of children that I see who would like to work on modifying their accent. I really enjoyed this course which also expanded my knowledge of the subject.

Because I work in an area of multi cultural exposure in the school system, I frequently get asked questions about this topic specifically parents asking about accents and accent modification. This was a great discussion on how to address some of the issues and especially the definition that I can use to explain to parents.

I am a bilingual speech language pathologist and although I work with kids- I often get asked questions about accents with my families/people that find out I'm an SLP. This course was informative with good research back up on accents and age of second language acquisitioin impact on sounding like a native speaker.

I liked the course in general, but the mention of SLPs who've criticized accent modification from a critical social justice lens being largely those who don't specialize in the area was a bit flippant. I wish that there would have been more acknowledgment of Critical Theory and its validity esp in a course on ethics.

I really enjoyed this course. It had a lot of thought-provoking points. I certainly agreed with how important it is to target intelligibility in place of attempting to eliminate an accent. I recognize that an accent is part of who an individual is, essentially. I do believe that we should not be tampering with this, but rather, working to improve effective communication.
