Unique challenges that SLPs in rural healthcare settings face and how they impact daily workflows and ethical decision-making are discussed in this course. Self-initiated measures such as practicing evidence-based measures, patient-centered care, effective communication and advocacy, and self-care to build resilience with SLPs working in similar settings are also described.

Key issues and topics related to the shortage of SLPs in the school setting are discussed in the course. Personal experiences and their impact are described and an action plan to deal with shortages is provided.

Evidence-based strategies, along with focused activities and stimuli, that lead to meaningful interactions, communication confidence, and improved quality of life are discussed.

The why and how of vocabulary instruction are provided in this course. The evidence base for the importance of vocabulary instruction (theory) as well as suggestions for vocabulary selection and best practices for instruction are also described.

There is a rapidly growing awareness of the importance of a culturally responsive practice when supporting students using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). This course aims to counter the systematic lack of resources and training available to SLPs who work with diverse populations who require AAC, and practically prepare them to better assess diverse students’ needs and implement impactful interventions.

An overview of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) in the adult population is provided in this course. The causes of APD in adults are described, and diagnostic and treatment tools used in an interdisciplinary setting are discussed.

Enhancing delegation skills can improve program and clinical effectiveness, the development of a whole team of individuals, and work-life balance for all. This course presents (and demonstrates) strategies for effective delegation and addresses barriers to delegation. It also shares a framework for developing one's own delegation mindset.
