Heavy focus on research. I have heard seminars on this topic by another SLP who included testimonials of adult patients who did not get frenulotomies as their speech was judged to be adequate. That adds an interesting perspective to this topic.

I feel that the author was very biased. Within a few sentences the reader could quickly see that she does not "believe in" oral tethering. I have seen over and over again in my practice with the birth to three population the impact ties can have with early feeding of solids. The research overall is disappointing that we are not seeing this impact and it was presented as "only for the mother's benefit." I was really hopeful for this course.

It was surprising that most studies cannot obtain reliable results. Even understanding that everyone has a different intra-oral structure, I wish that more studies would be done by following infants to adult hood to get some more accurate information to provide more information for assessment and treatment.

I work closely with ENT and we perform lingual frenectomies weekly with infants only. This information is spot on and so important. Our practice is very conservative and we are often criticized for following the research. It's so frustrating as many parents then go to dentists for the releases. Thanks for this course.

The course was supported by evidence of research. It clarified that Akyloglossia does not impact the majority of speech sounds productions, and in most cases does not require surgical intervention. I loved that page that I can give to parents who have concerns with tongue tie.

In graduate school we didn't really discuss much about tongue ties (probably due to the insufficient evidence) but when I began working as an SLP, so many of my kids had been noted to have a lingual frenulum when exiting EI and were told to clip it. I didn't know what to do or what to tell parents. This course provided me with a lot of information and stats from recent studies, that I can now confidently relay back to parents.
