How can I learn more about modified barium swallow studies without actually working in a clinical setting? Are there videos I can purchase to increase my knowledge in this area?
Answer
ASHA sells a workbook and video called Interpreting X-ray Swallow Studies and Planning Treatment, by Jeri Logemann. I found it to be very helpful for students and new clinicians. The course is available for study at home for Continuing Education credit. It reviews case studies, identifying anatomy and physiology, dysphagia-related symptoms, and the disorders themselves, and provides suggestions for improving patient swallow.
