Question

I like to use auditory scanning as a "back up" when devices are not available. However, this usually not the best option for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Can you recommend other back up strategies that would be more visually appropriate for th

Answer

Most devices that are available today allow you to print pages directly from the device to a printer via cable. Many also allow you to have back-up software on your computer so you may not even need a cable. I think it would be a good idea to print and have a hard copy of the main pages an individual uses on his/her device. It may not be practical to print all the pages on the device, but offering the main page and a few additional pages that are accessed often will give a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder a hard copy "back up" system (should his/her device fail) that has vocabulary that is consistent (both in appearance and organization) to the system he/she is used to using.
